David Simmons opens the wood shop
David opens a wood shop to supply his own construction company, building furniture-quality woodwork for his projects rather than buying it in. Craftsmen from that first crew are still on the floor with us today.
Millwork Artisans is established
The shop becomes a company of its own and opens its doors to the public — the same craftsmanship, now available to architects, builders and homeowners beyond David's own job sites.
First impact test completed for wood doors
The first certification milestone — proving a hand-built wood door could meet Florida's impact requirements without giving up its joinery.
The second generation joins
Drew Simmons, David's son, graduates the University of Miami School of Architecture and joins the business — bringing an architect's eye to the drawing board and the shop floor.
Full window line impact tested
Impact testing is completed across the entire window line — a significant investment made squarely in the Florida market, and the point at which Millwork Artisans becomes a full opening supplier.
State-of-the-art CNC machinery
An SCM Accord machining center brings tolerances measured in thousandths to work still finished by hand — capacity and repeatability without losing the craft.

A major investment in updated testing certifies the complete wood door line for Miami-Dade HVHZ — earning the tallest wood door on the market — alongside complete metal system testing.
Stainless steel patent approved
Millwork Artisans is granted its stainless steel patent — proprietary engineering behind the metal window and door systems.
Complete robotic painting line
A million-dollar expansion brings a Cefla robotic finishing line online — factory-controlled coating on every unit: consistent film build, faster throughput, a finish that lasts in the Florida sun.
New showroom and mobile studio
Opening early 2027 — a showroom to stand inside the work, and a mobile studio that brings full-size samples to the architect's table.
