A seamless conversation between past and present, the Tradd Residence is a rare jewel in the heart of Charleston’s historic district. Originally built in the 17th century, this storied home has been thoughtfully reimagined with the addition of a glass hyphen and a striking modern rear extension. Designed by Beau Clowney Design and built by Simco Inc. of Charleston, the residence honors centuries of architectural heritage while embracing a distinctly contemporary lifestyle.

Millwork Artisans played a central role in realizing the architectural vision—bridging the home’s historic fabric with its bold new identity through finely crafted elements inside and out.

Our scope included:

• Custom Sipo Mahogany True Divided Lite Double-Hung Windows
  Fabricated to meet the strict standards of Charleston’s historic preservation guidelines, these windows feature traditional profiles, hand-fit joinery, and rich, stained finishes. Their timeless geometry anchors the restored façade and ties seamlessly into the original architecture.
• Dramatic Custom Entry Door
  The front entry was designed to make a statement—crafted from solid Sipo, detailed with classic moldings, and finished to enhance both its scale and historic significance.
• Full Interior Millwork Package
  Millwork Artisans supplied and installed all interior architectural elements, including custom mantels, crown moldings, interior doors, cabinetry, and built-ins. Each piece was tailored to complement the home’s layered aesthetic, showcasing  traditional craftsmanship
• Stainless Steel Windows & Doors – Modern Addition
  In the home’s contemporary rear extension, we introduced thermally broken stainless steel fenestration, bringing a crisp, modern edge to the space. The slim profiles and expansive glass contrast beautifully with the warmth of the woodwork up front, creating a dramatic shift in tone while maintaining a cohesive visual language.
